HUMOR and the revolution
Pedersen, Sofie Skamris
Description:
This is an interview with American University in Cairo (AUC) graduate student Walid Asfour, who participated in the demonstrations in January and February. He went to Tahrir Square right from the first day of the demonstrations. He did not experience any violence but he heard many rumors about how there allegedly were thugs that drove around and made the city unsafe. Therefore Walid Asfour and the men in his neighborhood created their own local security force. But they soon realized that it was only rumors. In the interview Asfour also talks about the culture and the happenings on Tahrir - especially regarding humor and art. Also he talks about the AUC staff and AUC students on Tahrir Square and their roles and how the revolution has/has not changed the culture and debates at the American University in Cairo.
