Rural Responses to Globalization

The Rural Responses to Globalization project was conducted by the Social Research Center from July 2003-March 2007. The project involved several activities, including two studies. One study was on small farmers' response to global integration, particularly structural adjustment policies implemented in Egypt since the early eighties, and response to new global markets. The other study explored the impact of globalization on rural crafts and craftspeople, particularly as it relates to the standardization of styles of production and consumption. The project convened with two in-house workshops, and a final workshop to present and disseminate the research findings.
