Description:
The dictionary definition of an atlas is a book of maps and charts. In this audio documentary, this reporter attempts to explore another type of atlas: that in the minds and memories of people in the AUC community who experienced both the old campus in downtown, Tahrir and the new campus in New Cairo. Though the experiences of both campuses may be discordant at first, especially in the areas of emotional attachment to the campuses, food, and study experiences, a common thread ultimately bridges both campuses. It is not entirely the students or the January 25 revolution that makes this bridge, but the A-U-C community itself which refuses to let go of the old campus, and pushes to see the characters of both campuses develop concurrently. This documentary provides an atlas of both campuses through the discourses of the AUC community with a sub-focus on spaces and spatial relations i.e. the character of downtown, social spaces on both campuses.
