Governance of political parties, lessons learnt for Egypt from the case of the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AK Party)

Abstract:
Governance of Political Parties is a stream of study that requires more discoveries. It is an important element for democracy and state building. The thesis study goes through 5 different elements of governance that have been synchronized between different worldwide respected indicators, provides international experiences to illustrate these elements, provides a thorough description of the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and then presents the case within the 5 governance pillars as well as providing commentary on AK Party and lessons for Egypt. The developed political parties’ governance pillars are: Transparency and Accountability – Efficiency, Effectiveness and Political Responsiveness – Equality and Inclusive Participation – Party’s Stability – and finally Members’ Development. The thesis builds a correlation between these indicators and the success of AK Party and draws lessons for Egypt.
