dc.description.abstract Governance of Political Parties is a stream of study that requires more discoveries. It is an important element for democracy and state building. The thesis study goes through 5 different elements of governance that have been synchronized between different worldwide respected indicators, provides international experiences to illustrate these elements, provides a thorough description of the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and then presents the case within the 5 governance pillars as well as providing commentary on AK Party and lessons for Egypt. The developed political parties’ governance pillars are: Transparency and Accountability – Efficiency, Effectiveness and Political Responsiveness – Equality and Inclusive Participation – Party’s Stability – and finally Members’ Development. The thesis builds a correlation between these indicators and the success of AK Party and draws lessons for Egypt. en
dc.description.sponsorship To all the great women in my life who helped me become the man I am: My saint Grandmother, my loving Mother, my resilient Aunt, her two inspiring daughters, my wonderful friends whom honor me by considering me their brother and to that beautiful incredible amazing young woman, whom her name will not be mentioned, without her presence in my life and encouragement I would have never been able to finish the thesis and/or the Master’s or anything else. I would also like to dedicate this effort to a special person whom always believed in me and showed me nothing but unconditional love, support, care and respect. She is my mentor, friend, mother and advisor. She is Dr. Laila ElBaradei. I have never met someone like her in my entire life and there are no words in the world that can describe how much I am thankful and grateful. To my angelic sisters Ola El-Tailawi and Ghada Shawky for their tireless efforts in helping throughout my years at GAPP, also for making this thesis and the Master’s experience in general one of the best experiences in my life. A simple thank you is not enough; you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers. To Enas Abdel Azim and Sally Barsoum our department’s heroines who have been always helpful and supportive to all PPAD students. You are the best and major contributors to the success of the program. I would also like to thank on a separate note our generous readers Dr. Khaled Amin and Dr. Hamid Ali for all their time, patience and efforts. Dr. Amin must be thanked twice for his role as one of the readers and for his unconditional support throughout my Master’s degree and career. Finally, I would also like to thank his Excellency the Ambassador of Turkey in Cairo, Hüseyin Avni Botsalı, for his remarkable hospitality, support and encouragement. He has been an inspirational figure throughout our endeavor and made me feel that Turkey was my second home. Forever I am grateful. en
