dc.description.abstract The Egyptian revolution of January 2011 has been seen by many as a youth revolution. Though various strata of Egyptian society have participated in and continue to support the revolution, it is really the youth who occupy center stage in Egypt’s revolutionary picture. And anyone who lives in Cairo or has visited it since January 2011 will readily tell you that it is indeed the young who are carving the new future of democracy that Egyptians aspire to, despite the many pitfalls and setbacks experienced over the last year or so; how Egypt’s youth – with their new dreams, media, values, and politics of social exchange and interaction – are contributing to Egypt’s ‘cultural revolution,’ sustaining it on a day-to-day basis, and leaving their imprint on the blueprint of freedom and social justice being written as you read this. This interview zooms in on one of the faces of the revolution, Omar Robert Hamilton, British-Egyptian filmmaker and one of the founding members of the Mosireen (literally meaning ‘insisting’) initiative and the Tahrir Cinema project. The interview was conducted in writing over e-mail in March 2012. en
