Abstract:
The response to the last issue of Barqiyya was heartening. Readers encouraged us to stick to the one-sheet version. As it turns out that we, the Crew, prefers this as well. So, let ours be the minimalist motto, less is more. A barqiyya can’t traffic in major issues, yet the reader’s feedback compels us to wonder, loud, about two matters related to two biggies, Gender and Orientalism. The students, administrators and faculty who were generous enough to share their thoughts, were female. We hardly got a word from the male of the species. Why? Shall we stereotype? Did the issue not have enough sports? Are women better at expressing themselves and their feelings? Are males inhibited? Do females care more about the public sphere that does not offer visible rewards?
